Youngmi Ra

Youngmi graduated with a B.Sc (Biology) and an M.Sc (Microbiology) in the Republic of Korea. Later, Youngmi qualified as a Korean patent attorney and practised for 13 years at three of the largest patent and law offices in Korea before moving to Hahn & Hahn Inc in South Africa in 1999. Youngmi has extensive international patent litigation experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields, and also specialises in the filing and prosecution of patent applications worldwide. Youngmi also represents multinational companies for trademark enforcement in various African countries including Senegal, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia, Namibia and Botswana.

Madelein Kleyn

Madelein is a Chemical Engineer, an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa and a South African patent attorney. She has more than 27 years’ experience as in-house corporate Intellectual Property Counsel, in both Petrochemical and agriculture industries for international companies. She is an Expert Consultant to Hahn & Hahn focussing on IP due diligence in support of merger and acquisition transactions, commercial technology related contracts inclusive of intellectual property licensing, exchange control advice and approval application for export of intellectual property in off shore corporate structures. She also advises clients on IP strategy and policy development and implementation.

She holds a B.Sc. Eng. (Chemical), B.Proc, LLB, LLM (tax); PhD (Intellectual Property). She is a member of SARIMA, AUTM, INTA, SAIIPL, ACS, CCASA and LES (Past President).

Roland Baur - Of Counsel

Roland holds a P.hD in Physics from the University of Heidelberg and an LLB from the University of South Africa and is a German and European Patent and Trademark Attorney. Roland has been working for over 15 years in the field of intellectual property in, among others in the fields of electronics, telecommunication, satellite communication and signal processing for military applications. Roland did his thesis in the field of pattern processing with VLSI processors and later his doctorate in the field of particle physics in the context of experiments at the European Nuclear Research Centre CERN. Roland is the author or co-author of about 60 scientific publications.
